Ski touring is now a permanent checkout add-on for LHO Mera Peak expeditions. Participants require a minimum intermediate level of skiing.

Life Happens Outdoors has made ski touring a permanent checkout add-on for its Mera Peak expeditions in Nepal. Participants require a minimum intermediate level of skiing, with anyone uncertain about their ability encouraged to contact LHO Base Camp Support.

Life Happens Outdoors added ski touring as a permanent option on its Mera Peak Climbing Expedition on 19 August 2026. Eligible participants can now select the add-on during checkout rather than arranging it separately after booking.

A permanent option within the expedition

The ski touring add-on sits within the existing 21-day Mera Peak itinerary. Participants follow the expedition’s carefully paced approach through Nepal’s Hinku Valley, including acclimatisation, glacier training, High Camp and a summit attempt.

The standard expedition remains a mountaineering ascent and descent on foot. Participants who select the add-on prepare for a potential ski descent as part of the same journey.

Including the option during checkout makes the available experience clear before booking. It also allows skiing requirements, equipment and preparation to be addressed through the normal pre-expedition process.

Who can select the ski touring add-on

A minimum intermediate level of skiing is required. This is not a learn to ski option, and participants must arrive with an established skiing foundation.

Mera Peak involves ungroomed, high-altitude terrain where snow quality can vary. The intermediate requirement is the minimum entry level and does not guarantee that the option will be appropriate for every skier.

Anyone unsure about their level should contact LHO Base Camp Support before selecting the add-on. The team can discuss the participant’s skiing background and help determine whether the standard expedition or the ski touring option is the more appropriate choice.

The mountaineering skills taught during the expedition do not replace the skiing ability needed for the descent.

Conditions determine the descent

Selecting the add-on does not guarantee that a ski descent will take place. A route may be suitable for climbing without being suitable for skiing.

Snow cover, weather, wind, visibility, glacier conditions and the judgement of the LHO Team Leader leading the ski descent determine whether skiing proceeds and where it can begin.

If conditions are unsuitable, the ski descent may be shortened, changed or cancelled. Participants will then descend on foot with the climbing team.

Full expedition dates, preparation information and booking details are available on the Mera Peak expedition page. The Mera Peak ski touring guide provides further information about the terrain and conditional descent plan.
