Everest Base Camp can be achievable for many first-time trekkers with appropriate preparation, a suitable itinerary and experienced support. It is not suitable for everyone, and fitness alone does not predict how someone will respond to altitude. Individual health and circumstances need consideration. The CDC’s altitude guidance explains why fitness does not protect against altitude illness.
Fitness Level
Trekking to Everest Base Camp requires sustained walking fitness and the ability to manage consecutive days on uneven ground. You do not need to be an elite athlete, but willingness alone is not a readiness test. Build endurance and strength gradually, and discuss your recent walking experience and preparation with the trip team.

Skills Profile
The standard Everest Base Camp route is a trek rather than a technical climb, so previous mountaineering experience is not normally required. First-time Himalayan trekkers still need preparation, confidence on uneven trails and a suitable itinerary. Experienced support helps with the journey but does not guarantee that every participant will reach Base Camp.
Accommodation
Comfort Along the Trail Throughout the trek, accommodations in the form of tea houses provide comfort and respite for weary trekkers. These family-run establishments offer cozy sleeping arrangements and communal areas where trekkers can relax and socialize after a day of trekking. In Kathmandu, carefully selected hotels offer a comfortable retreat before and after the trek, ensuring a rejuvenating experience for all participants.

Experience the Journey with LHO
At Life Happens Outdoors (LHO), the journey to Everest Base Camp begins with understanding the itinerary and your preparation. Discuss your experience, current fitness and any relevant concerns with the team before deciding whether this trip is appropriate for you. Support on the trail complements preparation; it does not remove the physical demands or altitude risks.
If Everest Base Camp appeals to you, start with a realistic preparation plan and an individual suitability discussion. Reaching the planned destination should never take priority over an appropriate decision to stop or descend.
