Himalayas High Passes Itinerary

Your Run High journey

Himalayas High Passes is led and operated by Kirra Balmanno and Run High, with local guides. LHO features the experience as a trusted partner offering. Kirra is the founder of Run High and a professional trail and ultrarunner with more than a decade of running in the Himalayas and other mountain ranges.

The planned journey combines trail running and hiking through Sherpa villages, acclimatisation outings, Ama Dablam Base Camp and the lakes of Gokyo. Expect a social pace and long mountain days, with time for shared meals and life along the trail.

This draft follows Run High’s 14-stage programme. Total trip days, dates and night allocation are being reconfirmed before bookings open. The route is subject to weather, conditions and acclimatisation.

Day 1 — Welcome to Kathmandu

Arrive in Kathmandu and settle into the city before the mountain journey. Run High arranges the airport pickup and your Kathmandu base.

Day 2 — Time in Kathmandu

Explore, rest and prepare for the expedition. Use this time to settle in and prepare for the days ahead with the Run High team.

Day 3 — Fly to Lukla and join the trail

Fly to Lukla and begin the mountain journey towards Phakding or Namche Bazaar. Run High will confirm the overnight endpoint and stage distance in the final itinerary.

Day 4 — Acclimatise in Namche

A local run or hike helps you settle into the altitude, with a visit to Sagarmatha Next. The outing and pace respond to the group’s acclimatisation.

Day 5 — Views towards Everest and Ama Dablam

Another acclimatisation day based in Namche, with a relaxed hike and views towards Everest and Ama Dablam.

Day 6 — Namche to Pangboche

Travel through the valley to Pangboche, with a bakery stop in Tengboche along the way. Partner distance estimate: 14 km.

Day 7 — Ama Dablam Base Camp

An acclimatisation outing towards Ama Dablam Base Camp before returning to Pangboche for the night. Partner distance estimate: 11 km.

Day 8 — Continue to Dingboche

A shorter stage as the route moves higher into the Khumbu and reaches Dingboche. Partner distance estimate: 6 km.

Day 9 — Dingboche to Chukkung

Continue up the valley to Chukkung. An optional Chukhung Ri outing may be offered when conditions and acclimatisation allow. Partner distance estimate: 5 km, with approximately 5 km extra for the optional outing.

Day 10 — Towards Dzongla

The planned route heads towards Dzongla, with a Kongma La crossing or an alternative route according to conditions and the group. The route options and stage distance are being reconfirmed with Run High.

Day 11 — Cho La and the lakes of Gokyo

Cross Cho La when conditions allow and continue towards the lakes of Gokyo. Partner distance estimate: 13 km. Pass crossings remain subject to the Run High team’s decisions.

Day 12 — Gokyo to Namche

Return towards Namche. An optional Gokyo Ri outing may be offered when appropriate. Partner distance estimate: 26 km, with approximately 3.7 km extra for Gokyo Ri.

Day 13 — Back to Lukla

Follow the trails down through the valley to complete the mountain circuit in Lukla. Partner distance estimate: 18 km.

Day 14 — Return to Kathmandu

Fly back from Lukla, subject to weather. Run High will confirm the final included night, services and departure day before booking. Do not make onward travel arrangements from this draft programme.

Route flexibility and onward travel

Run High may adapt the itinerary to weather, trail conditions and acclimatisation needs. High-pass crossings and optional outings depend on conditions and the team’s decisions.

Lukla flights can be delayed. Run High recommends allowing at least two to three days between the planned return from the mountains and an international departure. The final dates, included nights and flight buffer are being reconciled before bookings open.
