Sure, it’s the highest mountain on the planet. Who wouldn’t want to see that? But the trail to the base camp of the mythical roof of the world is so much more than just a bucket-list tick. Here are 5 reasons to say yes to this spectacular adventure.

Everest is One of Many

There are four mountains above 8,000 meters in the Everest region, including Lhotse, Makalu, and Choy Oyu, in addition to Everest. That’s not even counting the lower but no less spectacular Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Island Peak, Pumori, and Lobuche.

When you walk through the region, it’s like walking through a natural temple of incredible towers that both humble and inspire. There’s nowhere else in the world quite like it.

The Sherpa Villages Make This Trail

The villages along the trail are like something out of a movie. They are vibrant, colorful, friendly, and welcoming. They are also filled with culture and tributes to the history and significance of the region. Most of the villages below Dingboche have market streets, coffee shops, and temples to explore.

The Mystical Vibes: Tyangboche Monestary

Reaching this monastery is incredible. Its location gives it a spectacular aura of spirituality, and the daily prayers, open to the public, are a must-see when you arrive. It’s one of those places that you have to see, hear, and feel for yourself.

The Views Aren’t Actually from Everest Base Camp!

Contrary to popular belief, the best views of Everest are not from the Base Camp. They are from Kalapathar, a 5,550-meter hill situated just above Gorak Shep. From here, you’ll see the most incredible views of the entire range, with Everest standing majestically in the middle. Most trekkers go up for the sunrise, but we find it way more beautiful to capture the mountains as south-west facing, which means the sun rays literally crawl up the face of the mountain.

It’s About Who You Meet

The bars of Namche and Lukla are packed with adventurers, trekkers, explorers, and mountaineers. At the very least, you’ll meet people along their incredible journeys, and they too will be a part of yours. At most, you may be rubbing shoulders with a mountaineering pioneer on their way to do something never done before. The people on this trail bring the grandeur of the natural environment to life.

When the Summits Call

If trekking isn’t enough to satisfy your call to adventure, you can add a 6,000-meter summit to it. At LHO, we offer Lobuche East and Island Peak add-ons that’ll put the cherry on top of an already unbelievable experience.
