A team does not always discover itself in a boardroom. Sometimes it happens roped together on a glacier, moving through weather, uncertainty and shared responsibility in the high mountains above Chamonix.
Market Securities recently joined Life Happens Outdoors for their first team building offsite with our team, bringing together the firm’s partnership and senior executive team from London, Dubai and Paris. The experience was hosted in Chamonix, one of the great homes of alpine adventure and a natural setting for teams looking to move beyond a conventional corporate retreat.
The group joined our Corporate Alpine Retreat in Chamonix, an experience designed for teams that want to combine time in the mountains with shared challenge, reflection and a deeper sense of connection.
The objective was simple, but not small. Create an experience that was accessible to first timers, strong enough to feel meaningful, and structured enough to bring senior people into a flatter, more collaborative environment.
A Corporate Alpine Experience Built Around Shared Challenge
The group’s Chamonix Executive Experience included a glacier traverse and a mountain hike in the Mont Blanc region. Rather than treating the glacier as a backdrop, the experience placed the team directly into the environment, with mountain guides and Life Happens Outdoors Team Leaders supporting the group throughout the day.
Participants were divided into teams of five and invited to work in their respective rope parties as modern day crystal hunters. Life Happens Outdoors crystals had been carefully placed around the glacier, turning the traverse into a shared search that required communication, awareness and trust.
It was light hearted in concept, but serious enough in execution to matter. Moving on glaciated terrain asks people to pay attention to each other. Teams need to keep pace, listen, stay organised and adapt together. For senior executives who are usually expected to lead from defined positions, the rope creates a different kind of structure. Everyone becomes connected. Everyone has a role. Everyone feels the effect of how the team moves.
That was the point.

When the Weather Became Part of the Lesson
Mountain environments rarely follow a spreadsheet. Weather became one of the defining elements of the offsite, requiring the team to deviate from the original itinerary and adapt the experience in real time.
In a normal corporate setting, a change of plan can feel like disruption. In the mountains, it becomes part of the learning. The group had to adjust expectations, follow guide decisions, stay flexible and keep the experience moving without losing sight of the purpose of the day.
For Life Happens Outdoors, this is one of the reasons Chamonix works so well for corporate adventure experiences. The mountains bring challenge naturally, but the structure around the experience makes that challenge manageable. First timers can step into a high alpine setting with the right support, while teams still feel the real weight of decision making, communication and trust.
Why the Experience Mattered for Market Securities
For Market Securities, the result was not measured in distance, height or technical difficulty. It was measured in how the team came together.
Founding partner Kamal Haidar described the experience as very well organised and said that it really brought the team together. That feedback matters because it speaks to the deeper purpose of this kind of offsite. The glacier was not a gimmick. The hike was not just an activity. The value came from what happened between people while they were moving through the mountains.
The experience helped create a more cohesive team, better communication and a flatter management structure, at least for the time they were out there together. Seniority mattered less than contribution. Titles mattered less than rope rhythm. The shared memory became something the group could take back into the workplace.
It also left a personal mark. A few members of the Market Securities team later returned to Chamonix privately with Life Happens Outdoors after getting their first taste of the high alpine environment. That is often one of the quietest signs that an experience has worked. People arrive for a corporate offsite, then discover that the mountains have opened a door they want to walk through again.
Chamonix as a Setting for Executive Teams
Chamonix has a particular power for corporate groups because it combines access, drama and credibility. The Mont Blanc massif rises directly above the town. Glaciers, alpine trails, cable cars and mountain huts are all close enough to support a carefully managed itinerary, but the environment still feels far removed from normal working life.
For teams that want something more grounded than a hotel conference room, Chamonix offers a rare mix. It is premium without feeling sterile. It is adventurous without requiring every participant to be an athlete. It is challenging without needing to become extreme.
That balance is central to how Life Happens Outdoors designs corporate alpine retreats. The aim is not to push people for the sake of it. The aim is to create enough shared challenge for people to communicate differently, rely on each other more honestly and return with a memory that belongs to the whole team.
For those who want to understand the wider mountain context, our Alps Mountaineering hub explains how glacier travel, alpine terrain and guided progression fit into the broader world of mountaineering in the Alps. For those drawn more toward hiking, our Chamonix Valley Treks experience explores some of the most beautiful walking routes around Mont Blanc.

From Corporate Offsite to Shared Story
The Market Securities offsite showed what can happen when a senior team steps out of its usual environment and into a setting where connection becomes physical, practical and immediate.
A glacier traverse gives people something to remember. A change in weather gives them something to adapt to. A team challenge gives them something to solve together. A mountain setting gives the experience enough scale to feel different from everyday work.
For many people, the first step into the mountains is not about becoming fearless. It is about discovering that challenge can feel safe when the environment is well held. That is why experiences like this connect naturally with the ideas explored in How Nature Improves Mood, Even If Heights Scare You, especially for people who are new to exposed or unfamiliar outdoor environments.
By the end, the point was not only that the team had visited Chamonix. It was that they had moved through a real alpine environment together, adjusted to changing conditions together, and come away with a shared story that belonged to London, Dubai and Paris equally.
That is what a well designed corporate adventure experience should do. It should bring people together in a way that feels real while they are there, and still useful when they are back at work.
