Three Distinct Editorial Roles
Role 01
Authorship
The named author owns the article’s purpose, structure and original narrative. Authors draw on LHO field experience, trip operations and established sources. First-hand experience is identified honestly and is never invented or implied.
Role 02
Editing
Editing is separate from authorship. The editorial team checks clarity, tone, factual consistency, practical usefulness, source quality and whether operational claims reflect current LHO practices.
Role 03
Expert review
Expert review is an additional factual check by a qualified professional. Reviewers focus on their own training and experience, can request changes and may decline claims outside their scope.

We select reviewers according to the subject of the article. Some articles require one specialist; others require more than one.

High-altitude medicine
A qualified expedition or high-altitude doctor reviews medical and physiological content, including acclimatisation, altitude illness, hydration, medication, oxygen and evacuation.
Trekking review
Nepal trekking
A licensed trekking guide reviews route conditions, terrain, daily effort, accommodation, access, seasonal considerations, accessibility and what first-time trekkers should expect.
Mountaineering review
Nepal mountaineering
A licensed high-altitude mountaineering guide reviews route demands, technical skills, equipment, objective hazards, expedition practices and summit-day realities.
Reviewer profiles state the person’s role, relevant credentials, experience and review scope.

Evidence
How we select sources
We favour sources that are authoritative, current and directly relevant to the claim. Depending on the subject, these may include:
- official government, tourism, park and mountaineering bodies;
- recognised medical and wilderness-medicine guidance;
- peer-reviewed research and primary evidence;
- established safety organisations and professional associations; and
- LHO’s documented operating experience.
We distinguish general evidence from the way LHO operates a particular trip. We do not treat another operator’s marketing copy as an independent authority. Where evidence is uncertain or evolving, the article should say so.
Transparency
What our dates mean
- Published records when the article first became publicly available.
- Updated changes only after a meaningful editorial revision—not minor formatting or housekeeping.
- Expert reviewed changes only after the relevant specialist completes a genuine new review.
Re-review may be required when medical guidance changes, route or access conditions materially shift, regulations change, new evidence affects an important claim or a substantial section is rewritten. Changes to reviewed claims return to the appropriate specialist before the review date changes.

Before publication, a human editor checks factual claims, sources, language and practical recommendations. Relevant specialists review content within their scope. AI-assisted work must not invent first-hand experience, reviewer involvement, credentials, sources or unsupported certainty.
