From June to October, we move our LHO headquarters to Chamonix. Yes, we have trips happening around the world, but this incredible place at the foot of the iconic Mont Blanc is where we coordinate everything from. Here are 5 reasons why.

1. It’s Got It All

From soft day treks and short walks to the highest altitude mountaineering in the European Alps, Chamonix is the starting point for it all. Want a short walk in the forest where you’re very likely to find alpine animals grazing? It’s here. Want to climb the hardest North Face routes in Alpinism? It’s here. Want anything in between? You guessed it. It’s here too!

2. The Weather is Incredible

Escaping the summer heatwaves in Europe is becoming an annual tradition now. Chamonix benefits from being deep in the valley between the Mont Blanc and Aiguille Rouges massifs. That means the sun hits a little later and disappears a little earlier. It also helps to have the glaciers towering only meters above to ensure that fresh air is always flowing our way.

3. The Tour Du Mont BlancT

It’s the most famous trek in Europe, LHO’s most popular summer trekking adventure, and it starts meters from the front door of our hotel! The Tour du Mont Blanc starts in Chamonix and spins around the Mont Blanc massif, with the trail crossing into Switzerland and Italy! The landscape is beyond anything that can be committed to words. You have to see it to believe it.

4. Unrivaled Mountaineering

The access you get from Chamonix is unparalleled anywhere in the Alps. Through the network of cables and trains, it is possible to go from 1000 meters in the town center up to 3800 meters and exit onto the largest glacier in France! From there, the options to climb are endless. Not to mention that the summit of Mont Blanc itself sits directly above the town. You can see the summit from the village!

5. The Village Life

This place isn’t boring. From bustling market streets to endless summer competitions including the Ultra Tour du Mont Blanc and the Mont Blanc Marathon, there’s always something going on. The food is amazing, the bar scene is super fun, and, unlike most alpine resort towns, the people you meet are down to Earth and there for the mountains rather than the boutiques.
