A Documentary About Kilimanjaro, Trust and Supported Challenge

Moving Mountains is a documentary project by Life Happens Outdoors following two Arab adventurers on Kilimanjaro.

Fred Sfeir, Lebanese, has retinitis pigmentosa. Raneen Faraidy, Saudi, has cerebral palsy. Together, their journey on the mountain became a story about far more than altitude.

The film explores what happens before, during, and after a serious outdoor challenge: the preparation, the uncertainty, the patience, the humour, the fear, the trust, the adaptation, and the quiet decisions that make an adventure possible.

At its heart, Moving Mountains is not a story about overcoming disability. It is a story about agency, capability, dignity, support, and the human decision to step into something difficult with care, structure, and intention.

Raneen Faraidy

Raneen Faraidy is Saudi and has cerebral palsy.

Her journey on Kilimanjaro is one of preparation, adaptation, and personal agency. Moving Mountains follows her experience of the mountain with honesty and care, without reducing the story to easy inspiration or simple triumph.

Raneen’s role in the film is not symbolic. She is one of the protagonists of the story: present, active, reflective, and fully part of the challenge she chose to undertake.

Fred Sfeir

Fred Sfeir is Lebanese and has retinitis pigmentosa.

In Moving Mountains, Fred’s story is told through his own relationship with the mountain, the team around him, and the choices he makes throughout the Kilimanjaro ascent.

His presence in the film is not defined by diagnosis alone. It is shaped by preparation, humour, trust, determination, frustration, patience, and the experience of moving through a demanding environment in his own way.

Why Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s most recognised mountains, but the mountain is never just the mountain.

Altitude changes the pace of everything. The body slows down. The mind becomes louder. Small decisions matter. The support system matters. Preparation matters. Trust matters.

For Life Happens Outdoors, Kilimanjaro has always been more than a summit objective. It is a place where people meet uncertainty, learn to move with patience, and discover what kind of support they need when the path becomes difficult.

In Moving Mountains, Kilimanjaro becomes the setting for a deeper question: what happens when adventure is approached not as a reckless leap, but as a supported challenge built around preparation, adaptation, and care?

Life Happens Outdoors’ Role

Life Happens Outdoors designed and supported the Kilimanjaro experience at the centre of Moving Mountains. Our role included the expedition structure, mountain logistics, team support, planning, filming, and production of the documentary. We worked to create the conditions around the ascent: the people, the process, the support, the storytelling, and the care required to bring a project like this to life responsibly. The story belongs first to Fred and Raneen: their choices, their preparation, their difficulty, their humour, their capability, and their experience of the mountain in their own way. Able also provided specialist support around accessibility, adaptation, and the practical realities of undertaking Kilimanjaro with Fred and Raneen. Their contribution strengthened the wider support system behind the project and helped ensure the challenge was approached with care, awareness, and respect. Moving Mountains reflects a belief at the centre of Life Happens Outdoors: outdoor experiences can transform people, but transformation is not something a company gives to someone. It is something people step into for themselves, with the right support around them. By filming and producing Moving Mountains, Life Happens Outdoors is extending that belief beyond the expedition itself. The documentary is part of our wider commitment to telling serious, human outdoor stories with dignity, depth, and responsibility.

Able’s Specialist Support

Moving Mountains was also supported by Able, whose role was to provide specialist support around accessibility, adaptation, and the practical realities of undertaking Kilimanjaro with Fred and Raneen. Their involvement helped strengthen the support structure around the project. For a challenge like Kilimanjaro, specialist input matters. The mountain requires preparation, judgement, flexibility, and a clear understanding of how each person may need to move, rest, communicate, adapt, and be supported in a demanding outdoor environment. Able’s contribution formed part of the wider care and planning behind the documentary. Alongside Life Happens Outdoors’ mountain logistics, team leadership, and expedition structure, Able helped ensure that the project was approached with greater awareness, responsibility, and respect for the individual needs of the protagonists. This collaboration reflects one of the central ideas behind Moving Mountains: meaningful adventure is not created by removing difficulty. It is created by preparing properly, building the right support system, and respecting each person’s agency on the mountain.

A Life Happens Outdoors Story

Life Happens Outdoors was built around the idea that adventure can help people come back different. That does not mean adventure is easy. It does not mean risk disappears. It does not mean every outcome can be controlled. It means that the outdoors can ask honest questions of people. It can reveal courage, but also doubt. It can build confidence, but only through preparation. It can create connection, but only when trust is real. Moving Mountains sits within that wider Life Happens Outdoors belief. It is a community story, a documentary project, and a deeper expression of why we do what we do.
