Itinerary

The combination of arctic kayaking, camping on remote islands, trekking to the summits of iconic mountains, staying in beautiful cabins on the edge of the fjords and all against the backdrop of the midnight sun makes this one of our most unique and spectacular experiences that you won’t find anywhere else. First-timers will love it. Experienced adventurers will love it. We all love it!

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO TROMSO

We’ll be received at Tromso airport. Early arrivals will have the benefit of visiting the town before our shuttle to Senja at 6pm. There will be a welcome briefing and an evening Kayak ride before dinner. We’ll be staying at a cottage in Tranøybotn for the evening. Please book your inbound flight to arrive before 6pm in order to join the shuttle to Senja. If this is not possible, please reach out to us as soon as possible for alternative arrangements to be made.

DAY 2: KAYAK TRAINING

For our first day we’ll remain in our cottage accommodation at Tranøybotn and spend the day training on how to use ocean Kayaks at the nearby boat house. Lunch will be at the lodge after which we’ll head out for a short excursion to a nearby island just across the channel from the boat house. The length of the excursion will depend on the time and how the team is feeling. Dinner will be a BBQ at the lodge.

DAY 3: KAYAKING TO LEMINGVAER

This is the first day that we leave our lodge and head out on our excursion. After breakfast, we’ll head out to trek the 600 meter summit of Husfjellet, a beautiful mountain overlooking the deep island fjords. After reaching the top, we’ll head back down to the seaside for lunch before boarding our Kayaks and paddling over to Lemingvaer, an archipelago of 90 islands where we’ll be camping for the next 2 nights. The water here is incredibly clear and the islands themselves are a sanctuary for a big number of species of arctic birds. We’ll be preparing dinner together as a team and enjoying it around the campfire.

DAY 4: LEMINGVAER TO HAMN

Our second day in the Lemingvaer archipelago is dedicated primarily to kayaking and exploring the islands. The day will start with the team all participating in the preparation of breakfast. After that, we’ll be visiting a nearby beach with a washed-up whale bone on it and exploring the smaller islands nearby before crossing the channel to reach the fishing village of Hamm. Lunch will be at a small hotel in the village. In the afternoon, we’ll be heading back to our island campsite to help prepare dinner by the campfire.

DAY 5: TREKKING SEGLA

The day will once again start with the team making breakfast together before packing up our campsite and getting back into our kayaks. From there, we’ll be heading back to the mainland and jumping into our van for the short drive to the foot of Mount Segla. The trek to Segla will start by heading to an incredible viewpoint before heading around the base of the mountain and reaching its summit from the opposite side. For those of us who’d prefer not to trek to the summit, it is possible to head straight to our accommodation for the evening. The night will be spent in a lodge nearby with a hot tub!

DAY 6: THE SCENIC ROUTE

We’ll check out of the lodge at midday and take the scenic road tour across Senja as we gradually make our way back to Tranøybotn cottages. This is a relaxing day designed mainly to take pictures and recover from the most demanding part of our expedition together. We won’t have any long treks or kayaking opportunities on this day, but it is no less spectacular than any other day.

DAY 7: TREKKING SKROLLSVIKA

After breakfast, we’ll head out for our final expedition day where we will trek up to one of the most scenic mountain spots in Norway. This mountain is surrounded fully by open ocean and is at the southernmost tip of the island. The trek itself takes about 3 hours to complete and is well worth every minute of it. Lunch will be a picnic at the summit before descending back to the seaside. We’ll wrap up the experience with a dinner together at a nearby hotel. For those of us interested in fishing, it will be possible to do so from nearby our accommodation. For those of us who’d prefer to rest, we’ll be serving hot chocolate, tea and coffee in the boat house before heading to bed.

DAY 8: FARVEL!

Departure to Tromso will be early in the morning. Please ensure that your flight departs after 12pm midday. If this is not possible, please let us know at the earliest so that alternative arrangements can be made. Those of us with later flights can take the opportunity to visit Tromso and walk around. You’ll be dropped off at the airport closer to your departure time.

What's the accommodation like?

On this adventure, we'll mostly be staying in cabins that have been converted from old fishing boat houses. They're super unique and comfortable. There'll also be a night spent camping in the middle of a cluster of tiny islands that we reach by Kayak. That night will be spent in a tent.
