Itinerary

It’s a chilled-out country and so is our adventure experience to this beautiful Himalayan Kingdom. Long remote walks along spectacular mountain passes, hot stone baths, cultural exploration and temples galore are what characterize this holiday of a lifetime.

DAY 1: ARRIVING TO KATHMANDU

Day 1 is arrival day. We’ll be picking you up from the airport and checking you in to the Thamel Eco Resort. Kathmandu airport can be a bit of an experience unto itself. Once you’ve navigated your way out, you’ll be met by your LHO team leader. Depending on what time you arrive you’ll benefit from a tour of Kathmandu which includes Durbar Square, Boudanath Stupa and Thamel. At 8:00pm we’ll have a team dinner and briefing before heading back to the hotel for gear checks and last-minute preparations.

DAY 2: FLYING TO PARO

We’ll start our day early and aim to depart the hotel no later than 5am to catch our international flight to Paro. The flight itself is a spectacle as we fly just south of Mount Everest with six 8,000 meter mountains visible throughout the flight. Upon arriving, we’ll catch our private bus to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, where we’ll have lunch. After lunch we’ll be driving up to the great Buddha statue, the starting point of our afternoon walk. The walk itself is through a beautiful forest overlooking the town and is mostly flat. After the trek we’ll be heading to the hotel for a rest. Dinner will be at the hotel. The central location of the hotel makes it easy for those of us who’d like to take an evening stroll.

DAY 3: DOCHULA PASS

The day starts early with a drive to Tashigang Goemba (3,600 meters) for a 5 hour hike across the incredible Dochula pass. The highlight of the experience is a sacred temple that sits at the top of the trail. We’ll be taking several breaks along the walk to snack and take pictures. Lunch will be at the road pass at the foot of the trail upon our return. After lunch we’ll continue to Punakha, our home for the evening. If time permits, we may be able to visit the fertility temple. If we can’t, we’ll pay it a visit the following day. Dinner will be at the hotel.

DAY 4: PUNAKHA ZHONG

We’ll get started with an early morning hike up to the Khamsum Yuelley Mamgyal Chorten, a temple built to overcome the negative forces in the changing world. The trail is a gradual incline that starts at the river and winds its way up to the beautiful temple at the top. Lunch will be a picnic by the river before visiting the Punakha Zhong, an iconic fortress on the river side. We’ll have a guided tour of the Zhong which is home to a monastery and several ancient artifacts of Buddhist Heritage. After our visit we will be returning to Paro via the Dochulla Pass. We’ll stop for tea at the pass on the way back. Dinner will be at the hotel in Paro.

DAY 5: TIGER’S NEST

The highlight of our experience in Bhutan is the iconic Tiger’s next monastery. The trek starts with a brief incline through the forest. Traditionally some team members have chosen to do this section on horseback. The option is available for those of us who’d prefer it. We’ll be stopping for tea at the halfway point where those of us on horseback will have to dismount. From there we’ll follow a series of staircases that wind up the side of the mountain leading to the temple. Once we arrive, we’ll be taken on a guided tour. For those of us who’d like to just sit and meditate or enjoy the experience on their own this is entirely possible. We’ll set up a meeting point and time for everyone to get together for the descent. Lunch will be at a tea house on the trail. After the experience we’ll have some free time to explore the Paro market before being taken to The Farm, where we’ll be treated to traditional archery lessons, have a traditional hot stone bath and enjoy a cultural show with dinner on our last night in Bhutan.

DAY 6: NAGARKOT

We’ll be flying back to Kathmandu in the early morning. From the airport we’ll be heading to Nagarkot, a beautiful hill top nature reserve on the edge of the Kathmandu valley with views on the Everest region. After check in and lunch, we’ll take a short hike around the hotel before having our first yoga and meditation session at sunset.

DAY 7: MEDITATION, YOGA AND TREKKING

We’ll start with a sunrise yoga and meditation session before breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast we’ll be heading on a full day trek across Nagarkot. On our trek we’ll be accompanied by our Guru who’ll lead us in meditations at different points along our trek. Lunch will be a local cultural experience where we’ll be enjoying some Nepali street foot. Upon our return to the hotel, we’ll have another session with the Guru before enjoy our last dinner together.

DAY 8: NAMASTE!

Our last day together is dedicated to airport transfers. For those of us with morning flights, transport will be arranged directly to the airport. For those of us who have evening flights we’ll start our day with a meditation and yoga session follow by breakfast. After that we’ll head to the Thamel Eco Resort in Kathmandu. The afternoon is free for those of us who’d like to roam around and airport transfers will be arranged based on your departure times from our hotel in Kathmandu.

Hear From Our Community

I went to Bhutan & Peru with LHO, places I’ve only dreamed of, without even knowing either Rami or Ghida. There, I got to experience some of the most untouched parts of the world with like-minded people who became family. I felt immense gratitude & joy after each trip, and can’t recommend them enough.

I just left Kathmandu after spending a wonderful time hiking in Bhutan reaching the sacred place of Tigers Nest... on top of Bhutan being a fantastic place, the people I met on the trip were amazing and the whole experience was out of this world... it’s a lifetime experience for everyone who loves nature, hiking, meeting new people and get inspired every single day. I can go on forever talking about the trip and how wonderful it is... if you are reading this review that means you need an answer of “why to chose LHO?” Well for sooooo many reasons; the pre trip communication is proactive, crystal clear, friendly and honest... you get all what you need to know on email, pdf booklets, WhatsApp and by phone if needed. During the trip everything is managed properly, not one single thing went wrong, you get what you were promised with and much more, specially when hiking with such an inspiring humble passionate climber “Rami Rasamny”. Post trip; what can you ask for more ? You have all the new memories, friendships and lifetime lessons :) & you become a member of the LHO community to plan your next trip which I’m already doing right now!

Bhutan is a piece of heaven, such a wonderful discovery that exceeds all expectations. It is a unique and out of this world country with its people, its scenery, its history and mostly its nature. It is EPIC. Going there gives you a chance to reconnect with nature and with yourself. It is an active meditation but with lots of discoveries and learnings. I will never forget the hike to the Tiger's nest; a peak of happiness and an out of this world scenery. It was a great decision to visit Bhutan with LHO, as the trip was very well organized from the day I booked till the day I travelled back to Paris, Rami took very good care of the group, always with patience and a smile. LHO made all the difference, it made the adventure even more memorable, smooth and secured. I did not know anyone from the group but from the 1st night we all bonded and ended up being friends and always in touch with each other. I really recommend visiting Bhutan, the hikes are not difficult and the programme is very well organized, you will come back with inner peace, and a fully zen well-being. Looking forward to the MACHU PICCHU trail in June 2021! I am sure it is also going to be epic.
