Northern Lights Arctic Adventure

A BLEND OF EPIC ADVENTURES AND STUNNING ACCOMMODATION ALL UNDERNEATH THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

The Northern Lights are something but the Northern Lights seen from the remote arctic island of Senja is on a different level entirely. On this adventure we'll be heading far away from the light pollution of the mainland to the island known as "Little Norway" because of how diverse and dramatic the landscape is. We'll be snowshoeing, dog sledding, kayaking and singing around a bonfire on the beach all against the backdrop of nature's most incredible show: The Northern Lights.

Itinerary

By dog sled. By Kayak. By snowshoe. Nobody chases the Northern lights quite like we do! Our adventure holiday is all about sharing good times, trying out new things and above all, having fun against the backdrop of nature’s most spectacular lights show!

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO TROMSO

We’ll be received at Tromso airport. Early arrivals will have the benefit of visiting the town before our shuttle to Senja which can be as early as 3 pm. There will be a welcome briefing and presentation about the Northern lights followed by dinner. We’ll have a welcome drinks reception around a bonfire after dinner. For those of us who’d like to recover from travel, we’ll be able to check right into our cabin lodge for a good night’s rest. Please book your inbound flight to arrive before 1 pm in order to join the shuttle to Senja. If this is not possible, please reach out to us as soon as possible for alternative arrangements to be made.

DAY 2: ICE FISHING OR SEA KAYAKING

Our first full day together starts with breakfast. We’ll also be making our packed lunches before heading out to our activity for the day. Depending on weather, we’ll either head to Stor Vatnet, a big lake for some ice fishing. Or we’ll head to the sea and hop on some kayaks. Yes in winter, yes in the arctic! We’ll be having lunch on location and anything we catch will be stored for dinner. In the afternoon we’ll head back to our lodge for some relaxation before dinner. We will then meet an aurora borealis expert that will also help us use our cameras to capture the magic of the Northern Lights.

DAY 3: SNOWSHOEING TO ÅNDERLDALEN NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we’ll be heading out to Ånderdalen National Park, an iconic Northern Norwegian park for a full day of snowshoeing. We’ll be having our packed lunch inside the park. This is a spectacular day that gives us the unique opportunity to explore the island’s famous landscape. Senja is known as “Little Norway” and this day justifies the title. Dinner will be back at our lodge followed by our now customary bonfire on the beach.

DAY 4: DOG SLEDDING

This one is an extra special day. After breakfast, we’ll be heading out to a nearby Husky herder who’ll teach us the basics of dog sledding. After we’ve demonstrated a safe ability to control our sleds, we’ll head out on a dog sledding excursion, hopefully against the backdrop of the Northern Lights. We’ll have our packed lunches on the excursion with dinner being back at our lodge followed by a bonfire on the beach.

DAY 5: THE SCENIC ROUTE

We’ll head out by car after breakfast along Senja’s ring road and take the scenic road tour across the island. Senja is a treasure trove of iconic sights and beautiful landscapes. This will be a great opportunity to visit as many of them as we can fit. It’s a relaxing day designed mainly to take pictures and recover from the more demanding activities we would have done together. We won’t have any long treks on this day, but it is no less spectacular than any other day. Lunch will be at a local restaurant and our final dinner reception together will be back at the accommodation. We’ll also have our last bonfire night together.

DAY 6: FARVEL!

Departure to Tromso will be early in the morning. Please ensure that your flight departs after 12pm midday. If this is not possible, please let us know at the earliest so that alternative arrangements can be made. Those of us with later flights can take the opportunity to visit Tromso and walk around. You’ll be dropped off at the airport closer to your departure time.
