Itinerary

The perfect experience for anyone seeking a beautiful adventure holiday against the backdrop of some of the most beautiful vistas on the planet. Our trip combines, fantastic walks with great accomodation and carefully selected local cuisine that truly immerses you in the local mountain culture.

DAY 1: ARRIVING TO CHAMONIX

Day 1 is arrival day. If you require pick-ups from Geneva airport, please let us know otherwise we’ll meet you at the RockyPop hotel or Chamonix central train station. Check-in starts at 3 PM but we can store our bags at the hotel and roam around if we arrive early. Chamonix is a beautiful village and we highly recommend taking the time to explore it. A team dinner and briefing will take place at 7:30 PM with your team leader at the Little Boxes restaurant in Chamonix Sud.

DAY 2: LAC BLANC TREK

Our first day together will start at 8:00 AM. We’ll depart from the hotel in the direction of the Flegere cable followed by the l’Index chairlift. The Mont Blanc will be directly behind us as we ascend. After the lifts, it’s about a 2 hour walk to the beautiful Lac Blanc. We’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the lake and the beautiful views with a picnic lunch prepared by your team leader. From there we’ll begin our descent on foot to the Flegere cable to catch our ride back down. The descent will take around 3 hours to complete. Dinner will be at the hotel.

DAY 3: PLAN DES AIGUILLES TO MER DE GLACE

The icon of the Chamonix valley is the towering Aiguille du Midi. On this day we’ll be taking the cable all the way to the very top station that brings us right up to the glacier. We’ll start our day with a tour of the top as well as some free time to take photos and wander around. After that, we’ll descend to the mid station called Plan Des Aiguilles where we’ll begin our trek in the direction of Mer de Glace. This trek takes around 5 hours and we’ll be stopping along the route for a picnic. Once we arrive to Mer de Glace, we’ll have the opportunity to visit the ice cave inside the glacier before catching the mountain train back to Chamonix.

DAY 4: GLACIER DU TOUR

The day will start with a bus ride to Le Tour followed by a cable car trip and a chairlift ride to the Col de Balme. This is actually the natural border between France and Switzerland. From there we’ll be walking up the mountain trail to the Albert Premiere hut. The trek takes around 4 hours up and sits on one of the most spectacular glaciers in the region. Lunch will be at the hut a la carte. After lunch, we’ll follow the trail back down to the cable and onwards to Chamonix.

DAY 5: NID D’AIGLE

The day kicks off with a bus ride to the Bellevue cable followed by a mountain train ride to Nid D’Aigle. From here there are spectacular views of the Bionassy glacier. The trekking portion of the day is mostly downhill and will take us close to the glacier moraine and then through a beautiful pined forest before ending at the top of the Bellevue cable for our descent back to Chamonix.

DAY 6: BREVENT

Our final day of trekking in the Chamonix valley begins with a cable ride to the highest reachable point for trekkers at the top of the Brevent cable. The exit of the cable boasts the best views of the Mont Blanc so we’ll be taking our time here to soak it all in before we start to make our way along the trail down in the direction of Chamonix. Our farewell dinner will be hosted at a trendy restaurant in town.

DAY 7: AU REVOIR!

Our final day together will be dedicated to airport transfers and farewells. Breakfast is included on the day. Please make sure that you provide us with your departure details before the first day of the trip so that arrangements can be made.

Top Questions

Are there porters on this trip? What do we need for our backpacks?

There are no porters on the Chamonix Valley Trek. Each person will be carrying what they need for the day in their own backpack. The backpacks should not be more than 30 liters and should not exceed 5 KGs in weight. The best way to avoid overpacking is to stick to the gear list we provide. Anything you don't need for the trail, such as your travel luggage, can be kept in the hotel in Chamonix which we'll be staying in every night of this trip.

Is altitude a concern on this adventure? What’s the highest altitude we’ll reach?

We do a quick cable trip to 3800 meters to get a capture the beautiful view of the Mont Blanc but we won't be walking at that altitude. For the walking portions of this adventure, we'll be well below the usual threshold for exposure to altitude related to become a concern.

Can we skip parts of the trail?

Yes, you can. This trip is designed to be an adventure holiday. We'll be staying at the same hotel in Chamonix every day so if you're not feeling it on a particular day you can just skip it and meet us for dinner in town.

Are there any specific backpack brands that I should consider?

Forget about the brand. Consider the fit. Backpacks should sit comfortably above the hips and on the shoulders with the weight dispersed equally between the two. You should also feel comfortable with the compartments and the ease of accessing your things. Brands we love include Osprey, Deuter, Marmot and Forclaz.
